Why would america removes gray wolves from their endangered species list?

gray Wolves ARE endangered, there are about 4000 of them in the WORLD. That constitutes endangered by my standards, what's more the Wolf is the holy animal of my religion, I thought they were all about respecting that stuff? that'd be like me getting a pile of 4000 crosses and burning it or driving doves to extinction (dove being the 'holy ghost')
